Undersheriff Mark Browning and newspaper editor Sarah Carpenter have enough on their hands trying to keep their romance a secret. They're supposed to be adversaries, not sweethearts. But when the sheriff is murdered in their Michigan resort town shortly before the election, their problems multiply.
Browning quickly discovers political shenanigans are interfering with the murder investigation while Sarah, who has a nose for news and a penchant for sleuthing, further complicates his life. They discover that the sheriff had no shortage of enemies, including a troublemaking psychic who knows a little too much about the crime, a beleaguered wife, his political opponent, and the daughter he gave up for adoption. Mark and Sarah try to find a killer as the demands on their conflicting careers collide.
Deadly Sources eBook Janet Boling
Review of Deadly Sources by Janet Boling; Kindle editionI purchased Deadly Sources despite there being no reviews by other readers as it was only a $0.99 price. With the time invested to read and the minuscule price, the investment still may not have been a good deal.
The genre could be police procedural, mystery, suspense or a combination. Whichever one you care to use as a standard, this book falls short of the mark.
I seriously doubt that the author has any police training or experience. I base this doubt on my thirty-two years in law enforcement. The errors in interrogation of suspects, evidence collection and general procedures are almost laughable.
If the author had a subject matter expert (law enforcement officer) available to review the manuscript prior to publication, it could have been fixed from that aspect's viewpoint.
The book was littered throughout with typos, wrong word, wrong gender of subject, and mixing of tenses within single sentences that it was very disturbing.
Perhaps even more disturbing was the failure to provide any kind of demarcation between which characters were speaking during conversations. And, in a similar vein, the chronology of events were often out of order enough to cause the reader to go back to re-read several paragraphs to clear up confusion.
Utilizing a good editor or proofreader would have done wonders for the story.
Feeling very charitable at this point I rate this effort Two Stars.

Deadly Sources eBook Janet Boling Reviews
I enjoyed the book and the killer was a surprise.
Janet Boling is a great writer and I just love her books
read it before didn't realize it but read it a second time moves slow in the beginning
Couldn't get past the first few chapters. Main character got on my nervous trying to interfere with the case for a story. I think it's partially because I don't care for reporters in real life that this book wasn't for me. I've read other books with similar story lines and still enjoyed them, but this pushy character was too much for me.
