I must admit that I know nothing about Sindome and had to look it up when I saw some other reviewers referring to it. I am not a gamer but I do love dystopian stories and thought that this was a fantastic one. Brendan Butts' "Recombination" is the story of Seven, who was unknowingly exposed to a genetic experiment as a young child and is now being pursued by the Skywatch Corporation, who'd like to take possession of him and control him. Not really something he cares for, he escapes and is on the run. I found this to be a very intriguing story that reminded me of some of the other popular young adult reads of late - which is a good thing. Really hope that there will be a Book 2 in the making for this one.Product details

Loved this book. Its a great representation of cyberpunk as a theme and Sindome as a whole. As a fan of both, it was a great read! I can't wait to see more on Seven Ecks. He's always been an interesting character in the game and now readers get a chance to see the backstory on him. Well done!
For a first work, this book was a hell of a read. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Hoping to see many more from both this author and from this series. I usually don't buy ebooks and I wish there was a print version but I was certainly impressed with the depth of the world and characters.
This book kept my attention the entire time!! Loved it from beginning to end. Look forward to reading more to see what happens next!!
A fun read. Great characters in a fascinating near-future science fiction world. The thought put into certain elements (such as the switchgrass fields harvested as fuel sources, seasonal worker migrations, etc.) were really interesting and added a good deal of depth to the world. It feels like a real possibility as a dark and unforgiving future.
The only reason I gave this book a 4 was because the book could still use a little editing and refinement. The story pulled me in and wasted no time in sending our hero off on his journey. The author paints a colourful picture of the characters and environments around them. I hope the series continues and we get to find out what happens to Seven and the Snakes.
Recombination was so much fun to read! It's a trek through a dystopian future that you will relate to almost alarmingly well. The author builds the mystery in the story very steadily into an exciting finale that you will not be disappointed by! It's a great change of pace from the traditional "save the world" motif, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Sci-Fi.
The story is very well paced with enough detail to leave you thinking, but not so much to overpower you. The dystopian future that takes place as the story's setting is expanded on enough to let you know that its not a pretty place and the times are tough on almost everyone except the elite few. It leaves you thirsty for more, wondering how it all came to be. The technology represented in the cyberpunk theme sparks the imagination with what is possible in the world that's been eloquently built, but not shoved into your face.
Its a light novel that is an easy read with themes that are dark and foreboding while not being too nauseating to read. There is just enough violence to get the point across and not an iota more which is something that I can appreciate. My only regret having read this is that there isn't more to read through.
I want to learn more about Skywatch Corporation, why the United States is in such a state of disarray, and if the U.S. is this bad how bad can it be everywhere else? There are plenty of ideas and narratives to explore in this world, and I look forward to the author's next story in this frighteningly realistic rendition of what our world may become in the not so far future.
